A provincial referendum administered by Elections Alberta is scheduled for October 19, 2026. Residents are encouraged to visit the Elections Alberta website for more information.
The Town of Calmar cannot regulate the content, size or placement of election or referendum signage in the community, since such advertising is governed by provincial legislation. You do not require a permit to install election or referendum sign along provincial highways like Highway 39 or 795 within Calmar; however, you must follow the Alberta Government’s election signs guidelines.
Signs placed on private property require permission from the property owners.
Inquiries or complaints regarding referendum signage should be directed to Elections Alberta at info@elections.ab.ca or phone at 780.427.7191 (for toll-free dial 310.000).
While the Town cannot regulate provincial referendum advertising, we do retain the authority for public safety and municipal operations. Our Community Peace Officers may respond when signs are placed on a Town-owned facility or property, if signage creates a public safety concern or traffic hazard, or if signs interfere with municipal operations.
Residents can report concerns about signs that pose safety risks to the Enforcement Services Complaint Line at 780.985.0405.
