Every year, Council and Administration plan the Town of Calmar’s budget by determining how much money is needed to run the programs, services, facilities and infrastructure residents rely on, while striving to limit property tax increases.
The Town collects property taxes to pay for municipal services like roads, parks, water, and emergency services, as well as programs like social services and recreation. We also collect the education tax portion and remit to the Province to help fund Alberta’s school system.
In addition to property taxes, the Town receives money from operating grants, user and franchise fees, building and development permits, licenses and fines. Municipal reserves, capital grants, and loans are sometimes used to fund important civic projects.
Help us build the 2027 budget!
Residents are invited to complete a short survey to rank the importance of municipal programs and services to help Council allocate budget dollars for programs, services, infrastructure, and community priorities in the 2027 Budget.
The survey runs from November 6 – November 30, 2026.
Council wants to gather input to identify your priorities for municipal spending as it works to respond to growing demands and rising costs while striving to limit property tax increases.
Council will consider and incorporate – wherever possible – your valuable feedback in its budget deliberations. Your responses will be gathered into a What We Heard report that will be presented to Council for consideration at their Regular Meeting on December 7, 2026.
Note: All survey responses will be entered into a random draw for a chance for respondents to win one of two $25 gift certificates to local businesses and some cool Town of Calmar swag!
