Overview
Fire conditions can change quickly due to weather and dry conditions. This page provides current information on Fire Advisories, Fire Restrictions, and Fire Bans to help residents understand what activities are allowed and what precautions are required. Staying informed and following the current fire status helps reduce wildfire risk and keeps our community safe.
For provincial fire status and updates:
Fire Advisory
A Fire Advisory is an early warning stage issued when fire hazard conditions increase due to dry weather. This advisory is intended to raise awareness and encourage caution, as conditions may lead to a Fire Restriction or Fire Ban if they worsen.
Under a Fire Advisory, open‑air fire permits remain valid, and the use of campground and backyard fire pits is still allowed. Residents are asked to use increased care and caution when burning and with any activity that could start a fire.
Please remember to:
- Exercise extreme caution with any open flames
- Never leave a fire unattended
- Ensure all fires are fully extinguished before leaving
- Follow the “Soak it, Stir it, Soak it again” method to put fires out safely
Conditions can change quickly. Residents are encouraged to monitor updates regularly and do their part to help reduce wildfire risk.
Fire Restriction
A Fire Restriction is issued when wildfire risk has increased significantly due to dry conditions. This stage places limits on activities that could cause a fire to start or spread. Under a Fire Restriction, all open‑air fire permits are suspended, and no new permits will be issued.
The following activities are prohibited during a Fire Restriction:
- Open fires, smudge fires, or fires contained in burn barrels
- Fireworks and exploding targets
- Industrial and agricultural open‑air burning
- Any fires that could easily spread under current conditions
The following activities are still allowed, provided they are used safely and responsibly:
- Recreational fires in an appropriate, contained firepit
- Gas or propane appliances such as barbecues and patio heaters
- Solid‑fuel appliances designed for cooking or heating
Residents are asked to use caution, follow all restrictions, and continue to monitor updates, as conditions may change and a Fire Ban could be implemented if risk levels increase further.
Fire Ban
A Fire Ban is the highest level of fire restriction and is issued when there is an extreme risk of wildfire. Under a Fire Ban, all open burning is prohibited to protect public safety, property, and the environment.
The following activities are not allowed during a Fire Ban:
- Open fires, smudge fires, or fires contained in burn barrels
- Recreational fires in campgrounds, backyard fire pits, or other open fire pits
- Fireworks and exploding targets
- Industrial and agricultural open‑air burning
- Solid‑fuel burning devices, including charcoal briquettes and smokers
- Any fires that could easily spread under current conditions
Under a Fire Ban, all open‑air fire permits remain suspended, and no new fire permits will be issued.
The following activities are still allowed, provided they are used safely:
- Propane, natural gas, or propane‑powered appliances such as barbecues and heaters
- Portable propane fire pits
- Gas or propane stoves designed for cooking
Residents are asked to follow all restrictions carefully and continue to monitor updates. Fire Bans remain in effect until conditions improve and the risk is reduced.
