At their September 21 regular meeting, Council approved the updated Community Standards Bylaw #2026-09 after giving it second and third readings.

This comprehensive update makes the bylaw more precise and enforceable.  It includes enhanced noise regulations and a more detailed definition for daytime and night-time hours, new and clearer property maintenance standards, and broader enforcement powers for the Community Peace Officer role – with increased penalties for offences.

There’s also an update of the Nuisances Escaping Property section, specifically section 20, which deals with water run-off. This will address the issue of property owners allowing water to escape their properties and infiltrating a neighbouring property, putting dwellings at risk of damage. It will also minimize the potential of water being pumped directly onto or into municipal infrastructure, causing premature erosion or damage.
