Residents are advised that Frontier Project Solutions (Frontier) is working with the Orphan Well Association (OWA) to safely abandon a well (SE 31-49-26 W4M) located on land behind Hi-Way 39 Industrial Park.

Frontier and OWA are decommissioning this well on behalf of the defunct company Sino Western Petroleum Inc. over the next few months. A firm timeline has not yet been set, but the work is expected to take 7-10 days.

Residents and area businesses may see heavy equipment onsite, such as a service rig, wireline unit or cement trucks as crews work to safely remove the surface and underground equipment from the site. Crews will also remove and seal the wellhead around 2.5 metres below the surface to eliminate safety risks and meet provincial regulatory standards.

No odour is expected during the abandonment process; however, if it occurs, the duration will be short term. The overall goal of this work is to make the land suitable for future reclamation and/or remediation activities.
