Planning Calmar’s Future

As the Town of Calmar continues to grow, we’re updating key Master Plans that shape how we manage and expand our core infrastructure. These long-range plans help Council and Administration prepare for the future by proactively guiding land use, development, and services that support our community.

To support Calmar’s commitment to sustainable growth, the Town is updating four major Master Plans in partnership with ISL Engineering:

  • Water

  • Wastewater (Sanitary)

  • Stormwater

  • Transportation

These plans have not been updated since the early 2000s. Since then, Calmar has experienced significant growth. The updates reflect modern demands, align with current policies (including the Municipal Development Plan and Land Use Bylaw), and consider future residential, commercial, and industrial development.

What’s Considered in a Master Plan?

The Town uses multiple inputs to build a comprehensive plan:

  • Technical requirements and engineering assessments

  • Community concerns and feedback

  • Council policies and long-term goals

  • Provincial regulations and planning legislation

  • Financial viability and funding

  • Public and stakeholder engagement

These inputs help create a clear roadmap to ensure Calmar grows in a healthy, safe, and financially responsible way.

Where Are We Growing?

Future land use planning includes identified areas for:

  • New residential neighbourhoods (low- and medium-density housing)

  • Commercial zones to support retail and services

  • Industrial development to strengthen Calmar’s economic base
