I moved to Calmar because I like small communities. I lived in Quesnel, BC for 30 yrs. My Family live here; Leduc, Devon and Spruce Grove so I moved home to be near family.
We wanted to get out of the city for a much quieter life and a very nice little town.
My Wife and I decided that we wanted to leave the “Hustle and Bustle” of Edmonton. We were looking for a small, quiet Town that would allow us to still have access to the City. Calmar is the perfect place for us. It’s quiet, friendly and is close enough to Leduc/Edmonton for work. It was really nice to be welcomed to Calmar with a gift bag shortly after moving in. We are very happy to be living in Calmar.
We moved because of a job opportunity. Gerald accepted the position of Pastor at the Community Baptist Church. Moving into the town only made sense.
We’ve always loved being in the country and small towns. We seemed to be drawn to Calmar because we got more house for our budget and the location is great – not too far from the airport and not too far from Devon, Leduc, Nisku & Edmonton. We love it here and look forward to participating in the community events. Calmar is truly special because of all the towns and provinces we’ve lived in, no one has ever come to welcome us personally and with a gift bag.
We moved to Calmar, as we found a house that was barrier free wheelchair accessible. My partner suffered a stroke on January 23rd. We lived in Sherwood Park prior but our house at that time was not suitable! We are very familiar with Calmar as we used to have a trailer in Drayton Valley. We travelled through the town many times. We stopped often at the bakery, ice cream shop, bottle depot, gas stations, etc. We are loving this town and we both find the people very nice. A visit from the mayor really took us back, what a wonderful surprise. I am sure we will only love it more in time. Thank you for the warm welcome!!!
I grew up in a rural community (near Winfield / Breton area). I’ve always loved small towns and the sense of a tight knit community. I work in Edmonton, so I wanted something not too far out, but also not too big. I had heard about New Humble re-opening as an Ag Charter School and thought it was a great opportunity for my children. For all of these reasons, along with the friendly people (and of course the donuts at the Calmar Bakery!!) Calmar felt like the right choice.
We were looking for an opportunity to be in a small town environment, for some more land to grow veggies, and for our animal to have more space. To be involved in a community that supports each other and believes in a sustainable future, has culture, events, market and family owned business. We absolutely love it! Thank you for being so welcoming.
We moved to Calmar because we didn’t find what we were looking for elsewhere. Calmar has affordable homes that are an exceptional value. We found everything we were looking for in a home right here in Calmar. For such a small town we found a welcoming community spirit and look forward to calling it home.
Close to Edmonton and Leduc, big city amenities, all in a small quaint town!
Southbridge is a gorgeous community of large houses on larger lots. A lot more value for your money here. Everybody is friendly here!
We chose Calmar because we both grew up in small Communities and the closeness and support is something we knew we wanted in order to grow a Family. We also love the proximity to the City and Airport. Calmar is great for Community and Convenience.
We moved to Calmar for the large lot and small town feel. We are still very close to the city for all of the amenities. Calmar has been very welcoming. We love our new community.
We moved to Calmar because we enjoy small towns. Where we were living was only 1200 people, so we wanted something similar. We also wanted to be close enough to Edmonton for work. Calmar just happened to be the perfect place. So far we really enjoy living here and everyone has been really friendly and welcoming.
Donald and Rhonda moved to Calmar to be closer to family.
Such a sweet Town. Economical with most services. Still small Town but close to Edmonton, Leduc and Airport.
Our Family was looking for a quiet and charming rural community close to Leduc. We down-sized, due to 3 of our children moving out and we found the perfect home here. The neighbours are friendly, there are great walking trails and surprisingly good amenities. The lot sizes are huge compared to the city. It is a welcoming community. We enjoyed Calmar Days and we are looking forward to creating more memories here!
It’s my old home town. I went to high school here and we have friends and family in the area. Also wanted to get out of the city with the crime, noise, traffic, photo radar and homeless problem into a quiet, peaceful, friendly atmosphere. Housing pricing is much lower than Leduc or Edmonton and yet so close to the airport.
We chose Calmar for several reasons. Mainly that it is conveniently located close to a large population center without having to live amidst the hustle and bustle of the City. Everything we need is close by. Also, a small town atmosphere and being more accessible to family and friends is very important at this stage of our lives.
We spent the past 3 years living in NE Edmonton – and hated it! Small yards, miles and miles of repetitive, big box stores. Neighbours didn’t or wouldn’t talk to us and would cross the street when they saw we were walking the dog. Honestly, it was very lonely. On our 2nd day here the owners of Fas Gas knew our first names. Our neighbours had a COVID-19 properly spaced driveway beer. People say “Hi” when we’re out and people/children run TO not from the dog. We didn’t move to Calmar – We moved Home.
For years, we drove through Calmar on our way to Edmonton. Always stopped to eat and enjoyed the people we have met. It was time to downsize our home and we wanted to move closer to the grandchild but not too close. Enjoy the town and all is in walking distance to our home. Great places to eat, friendly, helpful people.
We chose to move to Calmar to be back around the family and the Town has a lot to offer us as well as the cheaper housing market compared to Leduc. After moving back home to Calmar from Leduc it was quickly noticed how much more peaceful it is being back in a smaller town and the people were all very welcoming.
