Snow Angel Program

Removal Assistance in Calmar

Winter in Alberta can be challenging, especially for residents who are unable to clear snow and ice themselves. The Town of Calmar Snow Angel Program, offered by Family and Community Support Services (FCSS), connects community volunteers with residents who need free snow removal assistance.

This program ensures that sidewalks and walkways remain safe and accessible, reducing the risk of slips, falls, and fines for uncleared sidewalks. It’s part of our ongoing commitment to supporting Calmar seniors and residents with disabilities during the winter months.

Who Can Apply for the Snow Angel Program?

The program is only available to residents who meet one of the following conditions:

  • Seniors in Calmar who are physically unable to shovel snow due to age or health limitations.
  • Individuals with disabilities who cannot safely clear their sidewalks or driveways.

To qualify, there must be no one else living in the household who can perform snow removal. This program is not intended for vacation snow clearing or as a replacement for regularly hired snow removal services.

By focusing on those most in need, the program ensures that volunteer support is prioritized for residents who truly rely on community assistance.

How the Program Works

Application Process – Eligible residents must fill out a Snow Angel Program application, available online or at the Town Office. Renters require property owner authorization.

Approval and Signage – Approved applicants receive a Snow Angel window sign, letting volunteers know they need assistance.

Volunteer Assistance – Local volunteers shovel sidewalks and walkways as weather and availability permit. While every effort is made to assist all participants, service cannot be guaranteed and depends on volunteer numbers and snowfall conditions.

This program helps ensure safer sidewalks, improved accessibility, and stronger community support throughout the winter season.
